NOTE: Unfortunately over the past few months, the eBay marketplace has become flooded with CHEAP knockoffs of the FakeTV. These sellers were originally calling them "FakeTV" in their listings and were subsequently removed by eBay for trademark infringement of the name. So these sellers moved the words around in the title, no longer calling them "FAKETV" but instead something like "Fake Crime Prevention TV", that way the when someone searches for "FakeTV" it still shows up. FakeTV is currently looking into legal action to have them removed.
We purchased a couple of the pirated models and they are simply TERRIBLE. On the few other websites that allow these knockoffs, the reviews are terrible as well. You DEFINITELY get what you pay for! We sell the ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC FakeTV, with full retail packaging. A few big tip offs to look for on the pirated knockoffs are:
* No "FakeTV" logo
* Sellers originating from China or NJ

FakeTV is a burglar deterrent that recreates the light of a real HDTV television. So from outside, it looks like someone is home watching TV. Most burglars do not target occupied houses. Why risk prison? So when a prowler sees that flickering glow that means someone is home watching TV, he knows to move on to an easier target. So, FakeTV makes a break-in less likely. The FTV-7 simulates the light output of a 27" TV, just like our FTV-10. It is a little smaller in size than the FTV-10. Also, the FTV-7 has only one timer setting: Dusk +5 hours. The FTV-10 and FTV-11 have two: Dusk +4 hours, and Dusk +7 hours.
FakeTV's built-in computer controls 7 super-bright LEDs that fill a room with light. It accurately simulates scene changes, fades, and on-screen motion, in thousand of possible shades of color, just like real TV. A built-in light sensor turns FakeTV on at dusk, and it can be set to turn off after four or seven hours. The dynamic light from FakeTV conveys the impression of "alive" in a way that a light on a timer cannot. Consumes just the power of a night light. AC Adapter included.

How FakeTV Works
From outside a home after dusk, you do not see the television picture. You just see the flickering light filtering through the curtains. You probably assume someone is home watching TV. So does the would-be burglar. FakeTV does not make a picture, but makes the same sort of flickering light. It looks like someone must be home watching TV. The burglar is encouraged to move on to a house that looks unoccupied.

Just plug FakeTV in using the included adaptor, and move the switch to "Dusk + 5 Hrs". A built in light sensor turns FakeTV on at dusk, and it stays on for a preset time. It's that easy.
Why You Need More than a Light on a Timer
A light on a timer is a great idea, and we recommend that you use one. It can be seen from the street, and gives a good first impression. But timers are commonplace, and burglars know this. Worse, lights are static. But light from a television is something entirely different. It is constantly changing, and gives the impression of "alive." FakeTV recreates that light, and recreates that impression.

Try this yourself: look around at the windows in your neighborhood after dusk, and you will likely find one emanating the telltale flickering glow of a television. Now does it even occur to you that the home might not be occupied? We didn't think so!
So why not just put a television on a timer? It will not work! Most televisions turn on with push-buttons, so they will not turn on from an external timer. So why not just leave a television on whenever you are away? Well, that wastes a lot of power. Plus, televisions get gradually dimmer with time. FakeTV is a logical complement to an alarm system. You have an alarm system-- great!
You reduce your odds of a break-in by roughly two thirds. But thieves know they have time to do their damage before the police arrive. Burglars can cause you much misery in a "smash and grab" robbery. But they are much less likely to attempt such a robbery if they think somebody is home. FakeTV gives just that impression. Neither FakeTV nor even an elaborate and expensive occupation simulation system (such things exist!) can guarantee you will not have a break in. You should never slack off your security precautions. You still need good locks. But, you can make your home look occupied, and thus improve your odds, for a remarkably modest price, and with no hassle at all.
