Using a band saw blade for optimal performance and life
Deflection Blocks/guide bearings:
You have to check and adjust the saw guides regularly. Ensure if they are worn out, and replace if necessary. Position guide arms as close to the workpiece as possible. Ensure free Movement to prevent overheating and the need for replacement. Here are main problems and reasons for these problems:
Belt Breakage:
Tension is too high or Guides are worn out or the setting is too wide
Crooked Sawing:
Band Tension is too low.
Vibration:
Guides need adjusting, Band tension may be too low.
Band saw blade slips on Wheels:
Tension is too low.
The band saw blade does not run smoothly:
The blade should always be checked to run at the correct angle of cut required on machines with a tilting table.
The blade should always be tracked by hand to check the correct alignment of the blade before closing all the guards and starting the machine up
For optimal performance and life of a band saw blade especially in colder workshops during winter the tension should always be removed when the blade is not in use this will reduce the possibility of cracking while the blade is in changing temperatures
To align the blade for running in the correct position through the guides please refer to the machine manual to align the top wheel which is normally adjusted by a screw on the back of the top wheel this will not only give you better control of the cutting process but longer guide life as well
Our Engineers are always available to answer any questions you may have to ensure the best possible experience with your new Xcalibur Tooling band saw blade
Correct running of band saw blade:

For customer satisfaction all Xcalibur Tooling blades are thoroughly checked before leaving our workshop, please contact us if you have any concerns. With over 45 years of experience in the woodworking industry, we are always pleased to help and give advice.
Preventing Cracks within the blade:
Please ensure you use the correct blade guides with reference to the machine manual to ensure optimal performance from your new Xcalibur Tooling blade
Incorrect or damaged blade guides will create heat within the band saw blade or curved and wavy cuts reflecting in poor performance giving a shorter working saw blade life
Before operating a new Xcalibur please blade ensure all the machine setting up instructions have been followed correctly to ensure the best possible blade performance and working life
Being sure to align the blade teeth just forward of the guide wheels or guide blocks whichever is relevant to your machine.
The guides should never touch the teeth of the saw blade to give the best possible performance and life span of the new blade
Where possible on narrow band saw machines a rubber or cork wheel tire is preferred to ensure the longevity of your new blade.
Regular maintenance and cleaning of the machine is paramount to the best performance from your new blade and working of your machine
Cracks on the back of the band saw blade
A free-running belt back guide ensures that your band saw blade maintains an appropriate temperature and works optimally
The side guides of the band saw blades should also run freely
In the case of hard band saw rollers, the teeth of the band saw blade should, whenever possible, protrude beyond the front edge of the machine wheel
Soft covers help to maintain the toothing of the band saw blade that is created during production to make room for the saw blade while cutting the material
Jumping band saw blade:
The jumping of the band saw blade and shortened service life can have the following reasons:
The weld seam is not properly aligned
Excessive material cut with too many teeth
Damaged saw band teeth
Material feed is too slow
